Al Gore's Rise to Vice Presidency in 1992 & Macrocosm USA's role

On an afternoon in March 1991, I handed the Macrocosm USA database, a fully cross-indexed list of environmental and social grassroots activists in every state of the union on some half-dozen computer diskettes, into the hands of candidate Jerry Brown in Marilyn Ferguson's living room in her house on the topmost point of Mount Washington. I had been asked by Marilyn, crassly, not to attend -- but I did anyway, and apparently helped, just a tad, make history:

Brown and his IT man John van de Ven later used the Macrocosm database to contact grassroots environmental and social activists in at least half a dozen states, whose organizing work in their respective states propelled Brown's candidacy to some three or four completely unanticipated first-place presidential-primary victories (in Colorado, Maine, Vermont and Colorado) that astonished the political pundits.

This surprising electoral strength of Jerry Brown convinced the ultimate presidential-primary victor, William Jefferson Clinton, to name Albert Gore, Jr. (known to appeal to the same portion of the electorate) as his running mate -- and would-be successor ... if not for a vicious Republican Party, an incredibly stupid president [Clinton], and a massively self-centric (and also stupid, and loose-mouthed) little rich girl from the L.A. West Side [Lewinsky] pretending to 'work' in the nation's capital. (Unlike yours truly, who, at a younger age in an earlier year, went to Washington as a political intern and did work.)
